A Brief Explanation of the CFA Programs
The California Fencing Academy offers multi-leveled comprehensive programs in three main categories which are the recreational, developmental and team programs.
There are four very important structural:
- We have separate programs for specific age groups.
- CFA has many levels in each of its three programs: recreational, developmental, and CFA teams.
- CFA allows each student to progress through all the levels whether they want to compete or not.
- CFA fencing master’s and certified professional coaches teach ALL levels of each program.
Recreational Program
BEGINNING CLASSES (LEARN TO FENCE):
Meet once weekly. It lasts 3 weeks. If you do not fit our schedule private lessons are available.
NOVICE-INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM:
Meet once or twice weekly (1 hour practice). Ongoing membership program (month to month). At this stage we do make age adjustments to these programs on an individual basis. We do offer youth classes and teen-adult classes. Electrical equipment is required. CFA offers rental equipment for a fee paid monthly. You can also buy your own equipment.
INTERMEDIATE-ADVANCED/ Electrical /NON-TRAVEL TEAM PROGRAM
Meet once or twice weekly (1.5h practice) up to 3 hours per week. This program is for fencers who would like to attend local events in the future.
Competitive / Travel Team:
Local Team/Regional Team/Pre-National team:
This team practices twice or three times weekly (up to 4.5h per week). This program is for intermediate-advanced levels that have accomplished the tasks and met the goals of the recreational intermediate-advanced classes. However, CFA allows some recreational students to level up into this group if they have the necessary skills, self-discipline, work ethic, and desire to be in the program. All these fencers are taking private lessons weekly.
National Travel Team:
These fencers have been accepted to the national team after evaluation and a coach parent conference with full commitment to the program. The next level within this program is international level. These fencers are traveling to regional, super-regional and national events. This team practices up to 6 hours weekly.
